KNOWLEDGE

by Ross Bishop

I want to speak with you about concepts such as information, knowledge, consciousness, truth and perception, but they all tend to get mixed up in a world of confusing language, where the words have overlapping and confusing meanings. I will do my best to avoid adding to that confusion.

Each of us has a reservoir of knowledge - we call it consciousness - nestled deeply inside us. Some people refer to this as a God connection. Contrast that knowing with thinking or information, which is human-generated, primarily from our sensory experiences and the conclusions we draw from those experiences.

We seemingly live in two universes: the still, cosmic Mind universe of KNOWING, and the often bewildering thoughts of Mind (EFFECTS) in a universe of SENSING, with little understanding of CAUSES. Senses dominate our world. We see, hear, feel and think as the primary sources of our information and interpretations of life. Our senses are an active process that leads thinking. The “truth” we experience is determined by our upbringing and our life experiences. Contrast the human realm of thinking with the knowledge that comes from deep inside. Our senses produce information through our nerve impulses. Thinking is the product of those sensations - they produce information. In order to conceive, we must stop thinking and draw upon the knowledge held deeply within us.

On top of that, our educational system sanctifies the scientific principles of rationality (thinking) and reason. These help explain how things work but do not address the more spiritual question of WHY things exist. For example, science and medicine know a great deal about the workings of the body, but chooses not to address the salient question of why we are here. That subject is left to the realm of spirituality. Life is not in the body. Life is spirit.

Consciousness (knowledge) is immovable; it is static. Consciousness is the KNOWING of the mind. Consciousness is real; it is truth. Sensation stimulates our sense of reality. Whereas the foundation of the spiritual universe is stillness. The foundation of the physical universe is motion. Consciousness never sleeps, never changes, for consciousness in humans is their immortality.

The dictionary definition of empirical knowledge is “Conclusions founded on experiment and observation alone.” Isaac Newton, for example, confessedly did not know what gravitation was, yet he wrote laws concerning it based upon his observations as to what gravitation did to an apple. And because knowledge is subjective, science has built its edifice upon facts and information that are provable.

Consider that a person may possess vast information and skill but have very little knowledge. And there is no power in thinking. Thinking can allow a person to produce things which our industrialized society has done remarkably well. But a watch expresses the idea of time, but the watch is not time. Likewise, it expresses the idea of mechanical principles, but the watch is not the idea expressed by those principles. It is more than that.

INFORMATION is not KNOWLEDGE until it is recognized by our spiritual consciousness. And there is nothing wrong with that, as long as we can accept the limitations of our perception. And thinking depends upon perspective. We look up at the clouds, for example, and they seem still, yet they and we are being swept along at thousands of miles an hour by the Earth’s rotation.

Think about inspiration for a moment. Inspiration can never be produced. It can only be reflected from one inspired mind to another. For example, a printed poem has no meaning unless it conveys the composer’s ideas to the reader. A successful artist, writer, composer, choreographer or playwright has learned to convey their inspiration through their chosen medium.

What little knowledge humans have acquired over the last few thousand years has been given to us by mystics and prophets who have shared their inspired wisdom. And it is imperative that we live more and more in the cosmic Light universe of KNOWING and less in the universe of SENSING. Mankind has, as yet, only limited access to its inner knowledge.

Consider where your compassion comes from. We know we should be kind, and yet. . . What gets in our way? When we do not reach out, it is because we fear rejection if we extend ourelves beyond our self-defined boundaries. And besides, they are lesser people, and giving takes time and intrudes on our already busy schedule. . . On the other hand, when we are unkind, it is because we are afraid.

So we have a ways to go. We are not the barbarians of the past, but we still spend over half of our national resource on instruments of violence to be used on our fellow humans. Our reliance on thinking and information hampers our ability to move to the spirit realms. We are going to get there, that has been decided. We just need to get past this hump of rational thinking.
