If you travel around the world - to different cultures and ethnic backgrounds - 8.28 billion people - you would find essentially the same reactions, culturally modified, to the events of childhood. The universality of those reactions tells you that there is a great deal more going on than appears on the surface.

We all have spiritual work to complete. That is why we have come to Earth. You may be able to see the perfection of the process by reflecting on your own childhood. In childhood, when challenged, you moved into fear of unworthiness and self-doubt (which relates to what you brought in to work on). You were given enough love to get by, and the places where there was a void triggered your issues. As a result, you psychologically withdrew parts of yourself from the world. I am referring to the universal reactions to childhood events that leave us feeling badly about ourselves. Dr. Charles Whitfield, MD, writes in his book, Healing The Child Within:
With our parents’ unknowing help and society’s assistance, most of us deny our Inner Child. When this Child Within is not nurtured or allowed freedom of expression, a false or co-dependent self emerges. We begin to live our lives from a victim stance, and experience difficulties in resolving emotional dramas. The gradual accumulation of unfinished mental and emotional business can lead to chronic anxiety, fear, confusion, emptiness and unhappiness.

Unfortunately, most people will spend much of their lives imprisoned by the shadows of their childhood experiences. As a result, entire societies become separated from one another and wear masks to hide their feelings of inadequacy. But the game, although unpleasant, is familiar. We know it. On the other hand, we are unfamiliar with what it’s like to be open and intimate and walk in the light. It is threatening and the prospect is unsettling. It will probably take more than one lifetime, but eventually, taking one step at a time, you will overcome your self-doubt and fear, surrender your fear-based beliefs, let down your barriers and step into the light.

Look at the world around you. Our world is mired in materialism and the pursuit of greed and power. We tear up the natural world and upset the balance of nature, pollute the air with petrochemicals, poison each other with food additives and foul the air and water by dumping millions of tons of plastic into the environment. We lead lives of isolation, imprisoned by the fear-based defenses that we think keep us safe.
But over the years we have progressed, so there is hope. We are not the savage people we once were. Yes, we have a ways to go, but we no longer have serfs or slavery; women are free in much of the world and we are closing in on universal education and universal health care. And yes, capitalism holds us prisoner to our fears and makes us feel powerless while white supremacists spread racist hatred; but they are a pathetic minority.
A few people have made the transition to the light and returned as teachers, but they have been largely ignored because most people are simply not ready to hear them and make themselves that open and vulnerable.

So, is there anything you can do to enhance your progress toward the light? I am going to offer you three things that can help, but understand that the truth runs counter to what you presently believe about yourself. And it requires you to be vulnerable in ways that up until now have been threatening. And until these issues are resolved, the journey will be challenging.
The first exercise is designed to give you a reference point, a North Star that will provide an anchor and something to aim for. It has the potential to completely change the game, but because of your current ego-driven beliefs, the part of you that is afraid will likely resist.
This is normal, but if you can find the steadfastness to stick with it, the results can be quite powerful. You will shake up your established patterns, and they probably won’t surrender easily. This technique will connect you with the truth about who you are. It can serve as support whenever you have doubts about yourself. And remember that everything that happens here is meant to open you up and bring you home. What I am talking about is what you came to Earth to resolve in the first place. I have been teaching this technique to clients for years, with universally remarkable results.
The method I want to share with you will give you a direct link to the Creator. As you will learn, this process is easy to contaminate with your conscious mind. The steps are simple, but we tend to overcomplicate important things. This practice is a little easier if you have a working relationship with your inner child, but you can do it without one; it’s just a little harder that way.
First, find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed for a while. Close your eyes and shift your attention to the crown of your head. There is a conduit there (we call them chakras) that streams straight upward. When you feel that stream, ask to be taken to meet The Creator. In response, you will feel your consciousness rise.
Note: This is where interfering beliefs (we call them dark energies) will try to distract you from what you are trying to do. When you encounter these energies, it means your (fears) negative beliefs are being triggered. Stay with the process and try not to get distracted - because that’s what “they” want.

If you pay attention and listen carefully, you will find that their energy has a hollow quality. So if you come across anything that seems off, shallow, thin or not totally sincere, tell it to leave. You really don’t want these energies in your life anyway. These are the voices that tell you you’re unworthy and unlovable and cause you to close off. Send them out. Tell them to leave, and they must (at least temporarily). The voices will try to confuse the situation, and these guys are good at it! If it becomes too much, open your eyes and take a short break. Then come back to this place.
Being aware of your dark side (and we all have one) is actually a gift because it brings both its existence and your resistance to the truth into your conscious awareness, putting you in a better position to deal with them. But that is a subject for another time.
Continue to ask to be taken to meet the Creator. Allow things to unfold. You will know when you arrive; the space will be austere, simple, yet unmistakable. Keep things simple. Bring a question with you. Perhaps ask whether you are lovable or if anything is“wrong” with you. Ask whether you are worthy! Don’t expect a conversation. You will likely hear just a few words, but take whatever you get to heart.
When you feel finished, give thanks and return. Keep what you have been told close - write it down! It will probably be the most important thing you will ever hear! Hold it close to your heart, and use it! It is the truth! Use it as an anchor as you go through your days. It will help keep you connected to the truth, even though it probably contradicts what you believe about yourself. Do this exercise as often as you need.
How do you know this isn’t just a Jedi mind trick? After all, it may simply be a way to connect with your higher self. I have been doing this exercise for many years, and the advice my clients receive has always been perfectly on point, even when they didn’t want to hear it. And for skeptics who don’t believe in God, if the advice is perfect and it is what you need to hear, who cares where it comes from?

The second technique involves tearing down the barriers that separate us. What you do is “simply” fill your heart with love as you go through your days. In other words, “to act as if.” When you interact with your kids or partner, coworkers, or even your dog, approach them from a place of love and compassion. Don’t analyze the situation; don’t feel compelled to offer advice; just love them for who and what they are. Don’t overdo it, or you’ll come off as insincere. This isn’t about them; pay attention to what goes on for you.
Then, move on to doing something similar with strangers. In our impersonal and isolated world, they’ll probably think you’re crazy, but do it anyway. We’re doing this for you, not for them. Don’t put yourself in a position where they might think you’re coming on to them. A simple “hello” or “good morning” will do. Expect them to react. I know it’s playacting, but try it and see where it takes you. And when you realize you’ve lost it, just start over.
The third suggestion involves making peace with your inner child. The process is more complex than I have space for here, but I want to emphasize the idea. The reason this is important is that your inner child holds the pain and rejection he or she took on years ago. These are the root of your beliefs that you were defective, unworthy, etc. And that have caused you to build walls of “safety” that have insulated you from other people. Use what you were given in the first exercise to help him or her break free from the false beliefs you have carried all these years. There is much more to be said about this most important relationship, so stay tuned.
