You came here to work on an aspect of your spiritual development. But we usually try and sidestep that issue because it asks us to be more vulnerable than we feel comfortable with.

This business of life is not about becoming something different than you are. It is about accepting the truth about your specialness. And that means letting go of your beliefs of unworthiness - accepting the truth of who you are. It is the resolution of that seeming conflict that will eventually bring you to discard what you have come to believe and accept the truth about yourself.
Finding Faith III
Our resistance and the energy it generates through conflict, provides the driving force for a system that will eventually bring us home. Perhaps you already know that there is a great deal more to life than to be born, pay bills and die. This is especially true if you consider the complexity of everything in the universe and how perfectly it all fits together.
Being Wounded
When you are engaged in a conflict, you and the other person are at swords’ points, your focus is going to be on them and what they are going to do next. The last thing you want to do is to go any deeper and start investigating your own motives. We just want to get through the moment and stop.

This will be hard for some of you to hear, but everyone gets the life they need in order to advance their spiritual development. If you didn’t have a great deal of work to do, you could choose a life of minimal struggle. Others needed to do more work, so they chose lives that offered more conflict. And then there are those who, for whatever reason, chose to eat the whole whale in one sitting.
